Handlebars (Step 1 of 3)

Let’s prepare your handlebars for assembly. First, remove the black stem protector at the bottom of the stem, as shown below. Remove the clear plastic protector on the stem. The black part on the bottom of the stem is loose by design.

Next, grab the bike by the top tube and twist the fork so that it curves forward. The angle is really subtle, but there’s definitely a slight forward bend:

Insert the stem and handlebars into the fork.

Before tightening, let’s make sure that the handle bar is placed far enough into the fork.

THERE IS A LINE THAT INDICATES THE MAXIMUM HEIGHT FOR THE HANDLEBARS. MAKE SURE THE HANDLEBARS ARE LOWERED SO THAT THIS LINE IS NOT VISIBLE. This is the minimum insertion line.

Now it's time to tighten the stem. Raise the stem and handlebars leaving about two inches of stem showing. Center the stem to the fork to ensure they’re aligned with the rest of the bike:

Next, let’s adjust the handlebar angle. This might not be necessary if it already sits at a comfortable angle for the rider.

If you’d like to adjust it, simply use the large allen L-wrench and loosen the bolt on the bottom of the [stem]. Angle it and re-tighten the bolt.

Your handlebars and stem are now installed!
